How to update your ESG playbook with a low carbon game-changer, by Jonathan Moser, Senior Advisor, ESG
Environment, Social and Governance
ESG — as it is known — is front and center on the minds of every organization (about time!). Having dealt with ESG for more than 15-years, I can tell you that if you aren’t already thinking about ESG, it’s maybe about time you did.
If you don’t know where to start, allow me to introduce some potential focus areas on which to begin.
Environment
Think about what impact that your organization is having on the environment, no matter how big or small. Can you do things differently?
Social
Has your organization defined its purpose? (e.g. what positive impact do you want to have on the planet?) Do you have a community investment or employee volunteer impact?
Governance
Does your group or company have a Diversity and Inclusion statement? Are there targets in place to meet your goals?
Where are we at today?
AtlantisFiber™ recognizes the significance of these ESG considerations for its employees, customers and clients; not just through its solutions, but through its company values as well. In that light and building on my ESG consideration list, your organization may want to consider the environmental impact of the products or supplies that are used every day. Try reflecting on these ESG points:
- Is there recycled content?
- What’s the supply chain distance?
- What is the total environmental impact of this product’s use?
Atlantis Fibers is confronting these issues head-on.
Environmentally, recycled tire fibers are repurposed & incorporated into AtlantisFiber™ concrete reinforcement solutions.
AtlantisFiber™ is committed to reducing supply chain costs by using locally sourced items in manufacturing while taking a chunk out of waste-level bi-products of the tire industry. The development of an Environmental Product Declaration is on the horizon.
Why is this approach so important at this time?
Allow me to share a powerful example: There is an enormous worldwide infrastructure deficit. There is also an enormous need for infrastructure reconstruction and refurbishment. Combine these circumstances with the ESG lens and increased pressure on government budgets emerging from the pandemic and the result is a need now more than ever to build better infrastructure.
Part of the issue is the lack of innovative thinking by government procurement teams. In general, the procurement groups use the same old playbook, hesitant to think outside the proverbial box. And I get it, you don’t want a public building to fail because of a new product. However, there are many solutions and products, like those of AtlantisFiber™, that are already proven and ready to implement.
Let’s use a school example
Think of the carbon footprint to demolish the school and rebuild; instead let’s apply a sustainable, circular economy reinforcement technology to keep the school serving the public good for years to come (and seismically safe), saving public funds at the same time.
If you haven’t already by now, it’s time to throw out your company’s playbook, add a play with AtlantisFiber™ and get a big ESG score.
