Buildings as a Solution – A New Alternative to Carbon Capture
Carbon Capture and Sequestration technologies, such as the method of infusing CO 2 into freshly mixed concrete, have proven to be an effective method for reducing overall carbon with, in some cases, a 30% reduction in overall emissions. However, despite these significant advantages, this process still requires the generation of new concrete.

What if there was a retrofit method that effectively doubled the lifespan of a structure using a fraction of the materials — the majority of which being recycled content — that would otherwise be necessary for a complete demolition and rebuild, thereby storing the original carbon for a further 30-50 years? Further, what would be the impact of keeping this demolition waste out of landfills?

Atlantis was invited by ACI’s NEU department to give a presentation at this year’s ACI Spring Convention in San Francisco. Here is that presentation.

AtlantisFiber™ offers cost-effective solutions to help enhance existing concrete with crackage and shrinkage control, effectively reducing overall cracking by 90% and reducing the build and lifespan-cost of a project. Our Fiber Blend also works to reduce the weight, to make the concrete earthquake-resistant, and be very climate tolerant. It all works because when the concrete tries to crack — which is common in an earthquake and extreme climate zones — the fibers intercept the crack and act like internal Band-Aids. Learn more about AtlantsFiber™here.
