Fiber Reinforced ConcreteTo assist in the shrinkage crack-control of concrete, adding AtlantisFiber™ reduces early stage crack growth by 90%. This is very useful for applications such as slabs on grade, industrial floors, repair mortars and hot weather concreting.

Tests and real-world studies showed that fiber-reinforced concrete reduces crack formation by more than 90% compared to traditional concrete, with a significantly better environmental impact than using virgin fiber. In fact, concrete structures tend to develop cracks over time, but the Converted Polymeric Fiber (CPF) is an AtlantisFiber™ patented product that is designed to increase the strength and reduce cracking that often results in a loss of structural integrity in concrete structures. Further, the blend of refined fibers are sourced from repurposed tires which results in a 30% cost savings over more conventional fiber sources. The application of CPF into structural concrete has shown a 90% reduction of cracking in addition to a 80% reduction the amount of energy taken to produce traditional fiber, further reducing environmental costs for a typical concrete application.

Civil Engineer Nemy Banthia, who supervised the work and research, says "The environmental and industrial impact of the research is crucial. Up to three billion tires are produced around the world every year, generating close to three billion kilograms of fiber when recycled. Most scrap tires are destined for landfill. Adding the fiber to concrete could shrink the tire industry’s carbon footprint and also reduce the construction industry’s emissions since cement is a major source of greenhouse gases."

The results of all the studies indicate that Converted Polymeric Fiber (CPF) — which consists of a specialty blend of repourposed fiber — was more stable in the alkaline environment compared to commercial polyethylene terephthalate (PET) fibers.

AtlantisFiber™ has developed two Synthetic Micro-Fiber blends, which is a result of cleaned and refined polymeric fibers sourced from repurposed tire fiber-strands.  Our Synthetic Micro-Fiber blend has been specifically developed to be used globally in all types of concrete and for all types of uses and makes us quite possibly the most environmentally sustainable product on the market.
